ROKO / MATOA - gigs in Czech republic
ROKO
This guy, addicted to sub-bass, is for New New! preparing a load of dubstep and grime, which he has been steadily playing since 2005. Before finding himself in these genres, he came a long way starting with rock and black metal through jungle and electronica. Even today he is still inspired by blues, hip hop, reggae and dub.
Before he has started to play in London, where he settled, too, he performed in his town of origin - Helsinki. He runs internet radio SUB FM and organizes of non-profit dubstep party B.O.M.B. Throughout his career ROKO has played in Finland, England or Germany with names such as Tes La Rok, Pinch, Ramadanman, Reso and Heny G and Quest.
He is appraised mostly by his dual musical identity and his ability to hit the audience's mood - his sets vary between darker and more melodic pieces and hard, dance rhytms on the verge of experimental minimal techno.

MATOA
Behind the name Matoa stands Pavel Matoušek, the propagator of the British garage scene and DJ above all. His past long music evolution (as a musician or producent) was changing form hip hop, trough drum´n´bass, downtempo and jungle to his contemporary style, dubstep. But not strictly dubstep, according to Matoa´s words „In chill-out rooms I play jazzy, melancholic and abstract jungle... On main dance scenes I play hardstep and experimental drum´n´bass.“
He playes in clubs all around the Czech Republic, is a member of prague crew Sound Headquarters and resident DJ in Cross club. The name of this musician is first of all connected with the Swans band, which he had founded and between 1982 -1997 played variable, post punk music first, ditty music later – but allways with characteristically dark atmosphere. And no wonder, an influence of partly traumatic and destructive youth, the descovery and ephemeral passion for punk, as well as later kinship with no wave are strong presumptions for the creation of more serious and inner character.
Nevertheless, after fifteen years of existence, when The Swans became a big name of alternative music scene and the albums as „Love Of Life“ or „Children Of God“ became a classic, the gradual brake up of the band has come up. But Michael Gira has stayed active, he has found The Young God label, on which he has released the debut of his contemporary music project – Angels Of Light, which he produced as well. As he says, he is focused on sound and melody on their own more and that is why the arrangements are more temperate. Angels Of Light have released four albums and invited interresting guests as Bill Rieflin (Swans, Ministry, R.E.M.), cellist Julia Kent (Antony and the Johnsons) or guitarist Christoph Hahn for example. The most marked collaborations is with folk Akron/ Family, with who they released an album „Sing "Other People"“. Besides Angels Of Light, we can mention the project The Body Lovers, which Gira describes as a music for a film – without a film, as well as his solo stuff recorded at his home, available on his website. All of his mentioned creation connects (beyond the dark atmosphere) Gira´s deep, insistent singing, interpreting his expressive lyrics. We will have the oportunity to hear him 23th November in Fléda.

The music career of this musician is so wide that it´s just impossible to press it in few lines.
So what everything his business is? For example the legendary punk/ new wave band called Siouxsie and the Banshees, with which he played for 20 years and released 16 albums. Or the avantgarde project The Glove, which he had founded with Robert Smith of The Cure. Or other collaborations with Lydia Lunch, Marc Almond, japanese dancer Shakti, comics legend Alan Moore or Arban Ornelas, who is by the way his wife. Also the label RE:, on which he had been releasing, when he has decided for solo carreer. He also compose music for films recently (Nature Morte, London Voodoo, The rise of money). And this is what his audiovisual presentation in Fléda will be like – he is going to present the project Music For Silents – his musical accompaniement to projected silent film „The Seashell And The Clergyman“ and few other silent films. It looks like his ravenous rock past is gone, so we can prepare for ambient pulsing sounds reminding the creation of Philip Glass or Brian Eno, rather than punk.

New New! has the honour to introduce notable musician and producer, who „formed“ the word „techno“. As well as his origin (he was born in Chile, has grown up in Great Britain and now he lives in Barcelona) the music is also colourful. After 16 years of playing he plays something between racy techno and minimal, with the emphasis on unusual samples and pulsing beats. Ever since he graduated on The Music of 20th Century in 1993, a lot of clubs have rosen and fallen and Vogel has released albums on prestige labels as Tresor Berlin, Novamute, Mille Plateaux... But he´s not just hiding in the studio, from the beginning of his carrer he plays also on his own as well as with Jamie Lidell. As a producer, he collaborated for example with Radiohead, Chicks on Speed, Maximo Park, Thom York, Cafeneon, VirŸs and so on.
But the cell called „Music“ is too tight for him, he also cooperated with some artists on their multimedial projects (for example with Roland Olbert for Sónar 2003, Artificiel for Museum of Contemporary Art in Montreal) and he has published a book with the collection of his lyrics and poems called „9:09“.

Performance of artist Stefan Mörth aka Stereotyp will be unique not just because he spends most of his time in his studio and only rarily he is in concert. Wien, his home town, is rightly proud of him, even though he travels often to New York, mostly due to collaboration with rappers and other clubbers, hip-hop and soul singers, or - in his own words -: "just to have a sendwich and Snapple Ice Tea in a pub". Among his collaborators are Al Haca, Cappadonna of Wu Tang Clan, Daddy Freddy, Lady Saw, Hawk Eye or Spectacular. As a producer he took part in making singles a remixes released by labels such as Compost, Beste Seven and G Stone. His masterful music is built around booming, solid bass line with distinguished beats, mostly with a voice of some of the collaborators.
Stereotyp is not just a technically skilled musician, but even the inventor of 4D bass, painter and designer of various cyborgs inspired by H. R. Giger.

Polish band Napszykłat is a rising star of Middle European music scene. They masterfully oscillate on the edge of hip hop and dark electronics while using not just syntetic sounds and samples but also live drums and guitar. NP themselves doesn't agree with a label "hip hop", they claim closeness to aggresive rhytmical rap of Ansman. Their influence spreads from Burial, Efterkland, Dälek, Battles, Four Tet and Animal Collective to Black Heart Procession.
Their debut album "Plenum" aroused public acceptance not just on the hip hop scene. They founed label "Dzieci Świny" named after the river in the place of origin. Now they are setting out for tour around Middle Europe to introudce this year's album "Brudne Zwierzaki" full of instistent, dark music of solid phrasing and industrial sound.

The Nederlander Rutger Zuydervelt couldn't possibly pick up better pseudonym than Machinfabriek - since he has begun releasing his mini CDrs he comes with another one every month or two. So it's truly a music "machine" or "factory". But in his case there is no dull, instant electronic pieces, but an exercise of enormous creativity and a will to share his own work. Not just a lot of listeners but even big experimental music labels like Lampse, Type Records, Root Strata or 12K fell in love with his soft soundscapes and powdery drones. He collaborated (both in studio and live) with musicians such as Peter Broderick, Jan Kleefstra, Steinbrüchel, Aaron Martin and in 2007 he released an album of remixes by such artists as Xela, Alva Noto and others. He is unique thanks to both his work and progressive approach and the way his music is created - save from the sound bank in his laptop he records his own sounds and mixes them.

German quartet Von Spar comes after last year's release „A.XAXAPOYA“ [Tomlab] to play for czech audience too. Their second release has been predated by debut „Die Uneingeschränkte Freiheit der Privaten initiative“ and it is important to remark that music on albums difers strongly. The first album is a reaction to a post-punk/no wave renaissance and a delicate parody of 80's music style: jumpy rhythms, electroclash drums and cracy vocals.
But A.XAXAPOYA bears completely different music both by form and content. It is separated into two long streaming opus', which could - ironically enough - be used as an educative example for music theorists. You could find ambient psychadelic scapes, 70's krautrock, early trip hop, postrock tunes slowly turning into heavy doom metal track, which is inadvertantly cut by freejazz keyboard phrasing in there. Then add some sampled voices from "beyond", phone calls and wolf howlings. But all of this is coming in a natural and organic stream. There is no disturbance.
Live concerts are supported by band's own vjing, which only adds to dark experience of their music. Both albums share will and courage to explore (or sacrify?) old music styles as well as new options and their combinations.

This Hungarian DJ (his proper name is András Hargitai) aims at electronic, ambient and breakbeat music. He is an example of enthusiastic, able guy, who has despite his low age (22) reached very high. Under his other pseudonym Soutien Gorge he works as a producer, while as DJ Banyek he plays all around the Hungary since 2002 and he performed at Sónar 2004 in Barcelona. Czech audience had an opportunity to see him live at Sperm festival last year.
He even founded two labels: Bitlab Records (with Cooler) supported by a lot of famous artists, and Complementary Distribution net label. At the same time he is a music critic and reporter, has his own show in VBR radio specialised in net label music.

C. H. District is one-man-project of versatile polish arist Miroslaw Matyasik, who skillfuly combines the principles of IDM with hard industrial sound. After self-releasing his first two albums Pneuma-ti-coi (2000) and Contiuance (2002) he collaborated with french M-TRONIC label and thanks to his first record Slides (2005; split with nederlander Duuster) he is becoming successful not just on the home scene but even in USA and France.
Beside C. H. District project Matyasik collaborates with aggresive art group SUKA OFF in on acting and music. The group aims at themes of sexuality, bodyness and all its aspects in the area of new media, cyberculture and transhumanism.

This Wienian artist aims at exploration and usage of sound and soundscapes both in music production and in interactive sound installations.
His music is very etheric, full of soft noises, which emerge and disappear, which is due to his using of synthetizers and touching the very core of sounds, applying field recordings or sounds he just "founds" in his computer. Together with Ambient Animal and Gerald Krist he stands behind regular event Klub Mozaak. Furthermore, he plays and exhibits mostly in Wien. His work appeared so far on three compilations and one solo album Broken released in 2007.

Ans, young one-man-project from Liberec, swiftly reacts to the wave of dubstep crossed with breakbeat. He plays in Prague clubs (Roxy, Cross). Beside appearing on two dubstep/grime compilations - "9000 dubstep EP", where he is collaborating with DJ Side9000, and "Cinematic Dubstep Vol. 1" he released two solo works: three track "Vinyl 1" (Studio Rockers) and "Rude Files EP" (Own Tempo Recordings). On New New! you will see him sharing the stage with Machine Funck.

Carpets Curtains are Ivan Palacký and Filip Cenek aka Věra Lukášová.
Palacký manipulates with micro-samples of sound and bits of stories, which he records while traveling. These field recordings are then intertwined with variable, bizarre sounds and both deliberate or random acoustic glitches. These days he uses old knitting machine Dopleta 160 from 70's as a sound bank.
Cenek, who improvises very creatively with video, creates loops and dynamic, disturbing images. Together they create strong audiovisual experience by reacting to each other and both of them looking for new possibilities of their media.
Ivan Palacký was a member of „Sledě, živé sledě“, now he plays with Jennifer DeFelice in project „Tílko“, he collaborates with Cremaster, Ruth Barberán, Margarida Garcia, Will Guthrie or Andrea Neumann.
Filip Cenek lectures at FaVU, as a moviemaker and animator he took part in exhibitions around world (Paris, Palermo, New York, Bucarest), he creates visual part of music group MIDI LIDI, works as a co-curator of FreshFilmFest and is a winner of Tranzit Award 2004 for the work in visual media. Last but not least he works as a film curator of New New!

Dialect is literally educated DJ - he learned to handle the turntable under supervision of DJ Ghonzales in Prague DJ school. He kept on building on these technical knowledge. Firstly in 2001 with Kaktus Recordings label, which had halted after releasing one lp, but has been reactivated last year. Among others the label released this year Dialect's solo work „Evidence Of The Minimal Scrapes EP“.
Dialect's specialty is dark, industrial, broken techno inspired by Birgmingham sound, and to be more specific, by such producers as Surgeon, Grovskopa, Luka Baumann... In the beginning he play in the clubs around the republic, later he started to organize his own techno party in Prague together with befriended DJ Reznyk. They founded the Padrť project, in which he combines his darkish style with various breaks and experiments. His side-project Ytoř! leans more towards jungle and breakcore. On New New! he will introduce himself with his laptop, turntable and demonic set.

Michal Fridrich alias Electric/Fret is an important person of (not just) Brno music scene. He is founder of Chernobyl Musick netlabel, dramaturgist of regular Heavy Mental parties, co-founder of ngo Muzak, which produces a lot of Brno culture events, founder of Kazzzzm! event and member of a few music projects: Companiera Curie (with O.D.U.), Indie Scum (with Petr Michálek), Kyl The Sistem (with Batcha De Mental), Scumm Trio (with Sonority), Yaman Japan (with P.O.P.Corp.), and a guest in Hugo & Zoe and Kačica Lyžičiarka. Tomáš Ferko alias Teapot began actively create already nine years ago. He took part in festival both in Czech Republic (Colours Of Ostrava a Sázava Fest) and Slovakia - this year on Wilsonic, not being a stranger to Prague clubs such as Roxy and Cross. Today he doesn't make only live playing but co-organizes experimental music evenings called BALANC in Wave Club. His music is very smooth combination of soothing electronica and classical instruments such as violins or piano.

DJs Carl King and David Drexler play - according to their own words - "dance electronics with falt beats". Both were beginning as techno DJs, but now they create together interesting dance music, in which they mix classical DJing with electronic instruments and effects and sometimes even violins. Both of them are party organizers, Carl stands behind "Norther Light" indoor party aimed at czech and slovak DJs, open-air festival "OpenAirValley" and wandering party "Clickinq", where there is played his favourite click n cut´s, minimal and detroit. There have performed not just new and emerging artists but even the reknown such as Click Joe and Machine Funck.
Their live performances are mostly improvised as unrepeatable fusions of sounds, beats, melodies and moods.

Mio – Mio are two guys from Bratislava – Marek Piaček and Stanislav Beňačka, who call themselves „Woofer (basový reproduktor)“ and „Tweeter (výškový reproduktor)“. Their electroacoustic sets are based on „instruments“ made by their own – pocket computers Mio DigiWalker P560, in which is a special freeware called Clanger Theremin. They produce music by manipulating these GPSs, „Woofer (basový reproduktor)“ works in sound interval between 20 and 20 000 Hz and „Tweeter (výškový reproduktor)“ 201-20000 Hz. As the name of the freeware prompts, the produced sound are characteristic by glissando – gliding tones, specific for thereminovox.
They´ve performed together on festival Multiplace this year for the first time and New New! is proud to organize this distinct show for you.

Strangelet is Filip Škubal (also known as Unclean), a musician from Brno, who welters into soundscapes of ambient drones coming from nature and pervades them with glitch electronica as well as specious sonic areas. He played as techno DJ first, then focused on softer styles. The result is Strangelet – relatively young (from 2007) monomial project. He´s already appeared on few compilations (on Cryoworks label, that he´s founded, for the first time) and after the success he released EP called „Forrest“. Three pieces on that album describe impressions of this ecosystem, imitate sounds and infiltrate into the mysticism and darkness of the forrests. He also made a remix of Machinefabriek´s song, plays n Prague, Wien, but mostly in Brno – and not only on New New!

Although he rates among his music influences such interprets as Amanda Woodward, Jesu or John Coltrane, the own production of this one-man-project sways between indielectronica, ambient and downtempo, where we would search for aforesaid interprets in scrambled codes. He´s played in various clubs in Czech Republic, the most marked is his showcase on Heavy Mental. He´s released EP „Wirepuke“ on 2006 on czech label Ground Floor Records and appeared on album „Raise the Dust“.
